Business Voip Systems Explained
I'm going to give you what you might call the elevator pitch on understanding voice over IP basically works and why it should be important to you.
Voice over IP also known as VoIP for sure is taking telephone conversations routing them through a phone over a network cable into the network and then out to the Internet so instead of using the traditional phone network which is made up of copper wires and Central offices and telephone poles now we've taken the entire phone communication concept and moved it over to the network.
When I make a phone call what's happening is thank you for calling the Academy of organized crime in Chicago Illinois how does it do that the way it does that is it the microphone and receiver in here are working a lot like the same way that your iPod might work or your mp3 player it's taking the sound and converting it into little bitty messages or you can almost think of them as like little bitty MP3 files although they're not MP3 files or packets taking those little bitty recorded sounds.
Actually like several times a second sending them over the network is Network packets no different than like email or web content and then it's far in the other phone is opening up those little messages of those little packets and playing that sound back to you.
When you speak is being recorded as a digital conversation little bitty packets of recorded information going through the network and when you hear happening is the phone is receiving those little bitty packets of information and playing back to playing them back to you know why should this matter what the reason it should matter, is because like it or not this is the direction that the future of a telecommunications is going the old copper plant and even some of the other digital mediums like T1 they're going away because of cost it is way cheaper.
Let me Give an example if I were to take this phone that was on a traditional Network so soon I was on the old fashioned Ma Bell network or Graham cir Sprint or whatever if I made a phone call say to Japan it probably going to run me somewhere between old maybe 15 to maybe as much as $0.40 a minute if I were to make that same phone call using voice over IP is probably going to cost me about $0.02 a minute alright.
That's one of the reasons that's driving this rapid change over to voice over IP and voice over IP kind of comes in two different flavors right now there's there's there's premises Play Systems which means that all the equipment to run your voice over IP phone system with Just like in your building but there's also cloud-based will cloud-based means is it all you need is a switch and the equipment in the phone equipment you don't need to have any kind of centralized brain or PBX stored on your location, because all the signaling decision-making Rowdy and processing that's all happening in the cloud or happened in these data centers that are hosted by these by these big-name Cloud PBX providers helps clear up the understanding the voice over IP basically you're having a phone conversation but instead of going over the old phone network now it's going through the network is going out to the internet is traversing the internet at some point it might be carried by a carrier for a little bit to reach its final destination but eventually they even the carriers will become a hundred percent voice over IP might help the shop.
